Description: 16“x 9” white creamware leech jar. Sits on a pedestal with two shell handles. The lid rises to a dome and has multiple perforations in various oval designs. Printed on the container portion is the inscription LEECHES. Leeches are a fascinating subject in medical history. The leech jars range from very simple bowls to extremely elaborate decorated porcelain. The jars typically have perforated covers that allowed the leeches to obtain air.
