Description: 5×2,5×1” brass flask with remnants of the nickle plating remaining. Has a screw top and on the side a 1.6” round plate on a spring can be released to reveal the funnel into which the sputum was spit. Cap is for emptying the flask. From a time when adequate therapy for chronic pulmonary infections such as tuberculosis was not available. Patients suffered from productive coughs with these flasks as a way of relieving themselves.
